The FA TOP Sport Football & Sociability Programme
The FA TOP Sport and
Sociability is a unique partnership between the Football Association
and the Youth Sport Trust. It is designed to increase opportunities in
the PE Curriculum for developing football skills with children between
the ages of 7-11. The 'Sociability' element refers to the inclusion of
children with Special Educational Needs in this overall development.
- FA TOP Sport Football & Sociability offers training for teachers
to develop football skills in Primary and Special Schools.
- Having attended a generic TOP Sport training day co-ordinated by
their Local Education Authority, teachers in volved in this
programme are invited to attend a TOP Sport Football Course,
co-ordinated by their County Football Association.
- A key feature of this programme is the involvement of the local
community and partnerships with local football clubs.
Girls Football
- now the fastest growing sport in the country
When the FA took over
the running of the women's and girls' game in 1993, there were just
11,200 registered players. Today that figure stands at ober 61,000.
The FA launched a
campaign in July 2001 to get more girls and women involved in playing
football. Within the first six months the hotline had received over
2,000 calls. Today there are 3,500 girls' football teams in schools
and clubs and an estimated 45,000 under 16 female players.
To get involved in
playing for a local club, there is a hotline - 0845 310 8555 -
which puts females in touch with the 'Girls' Football Get Involved'
centres. |
