Reffley Mini-Soccer Tournament
(Format: One group of six, straight league, 8 mins each way)

15 July 2007

REFFLEY 'J' SQUAD Zach Massingham, Will Hawes, Danny Setchell, Alex Brown, Sam Last, Owen Scott, Owen Norris, Cameron Short & Ryan Armstrong.
Reffley 'J' started very well with a 5-0 win against Clenchwarton with goals from Danny Setchell 2, Alex Brown 2 and Owen Scott with a performance that caught Clenchwarton cold.

They then forced a 1-1 draw with the Woottons with another goal from the in form Danny Setchell.

Match three was against Leverington & Bridgecroft Boys and Sam Last stole the show with a brace which was complemented by another Danny Setchell goal to make the final score 3-1 to Reffley 'J'.

Match four was against Hungate and a well fought 1-0 win was earned with Danny's 5th goal of the day.

Final match was against Reffley 'M' and a win was needed to beat the Woottons to the winning post but a well fought match proved too much as both Reffley Teams shared a 1-1 draw. Danny Setchell providing another well taken goal to equalise.

Well done Reffley J on becoming runners up today and well done Justin Short in his first tournament representing Reffley FC and Danny getting six goals today.

REFFLEY 'M' SQUAD Alfie Evans, Ryan Higgins, Gavin Cooper, Thomas Chase, Tommy Hillard, Lewis Neve, Jake Mayes, Michael Bibb & Robin Fisher.
Reffley 'M' started slowly losing their first game in a very close match 0-1 against Leverington & Bridgecroft Boys.

They fought hard again against a revitalised Clenchwarton team and went down to 2 goals before responding through Lewis Neve to lose 1-2.

Match three was against Hungate and yet again proved to be very close and although going one down the boys bounced back to win 2-1 with hard work from all the team forcing an own goal and then a winner from Jake Mayes

Match four was the Woottons and another close defeat going 1-0 down before Ryan Higgins equalised but a second half winner proved vital.

Final match saw the boys playing Reffley 'J' and saving some pride. They went 1-0 up through Jake Mayes before conceding the equaliser which led to the result finishing at 1-1.

Well done Reffley 'M' on showing great character and never giving up and a special mention for Alfie who showed bravery and performed heroics in goal today.

Thetford Independents Mini-Soccer Tournament
(Format: ???

07 July 2007

REFFLEY SQUAD Zach Massingham, Will Hawes, Ryan Higgins, Gavin Cooper, Tommy Hillard, Owen Norris & Michael 'Van Basten' Bibb.
TOURNAMENT REPORT

The U8's squad took part in the Thetford Independents Tournament today and it was a very enjoyable day with 8 teams playing of which were all of a similar level with some very close and enjoyable matches with no teams being humiliated.

The boys played 7 games and each player had one match in goal with the only recognized keeper Zach Massingham having a day out on pitch for a change. It was great to see this set of boys trying so hard and enjoying themselves so much.

Another positive outcome was the goal scoring which after the 0-0 draw with The Bulldogs was spread out with Ryan Higgins getting the first in a 1-0 win against Indies Black thanks to great determination shown by Will Hawes.

A superb brace by Michael Bibb saw off St Edmunds 2-1 in the 3rd game with Michael scoring a goal which mirrored that great Van Basten goal for Holland stunning the crowd, myself and the rest of the team especially as he jogged back into defence as if stunned himself! Excellent defending and tackling by Owen Norris helped keep the score at 2-1.

Tommy Hillard scored the freaky goal of the day when ordered to pass the ball back to the keeper by the ref after a stoppage versus Brandon Lads which after travelling slowly 15 yards ended up in the net with the Brandon defence stood watching, however the boys lost this match 1-2.

Next game saw a 0-1 defeat to Mundford.

This was followed by a well fought 1-1 draw with Indies Red which saw another new scorer Zach Massingham equalize hitting the net with a free kick from distance (although his account varies as it may have been 30 yards with a wall of 3 6ft players in front of him!!!) Great goal Zach!

Gavin Cooper rounded the day off with his first and well earned goal in a 1-0 win over Indies U7's.

All the boys today played well, they tackled, defended and worked for each other throughout and although they came away with no trophies they did themselves proud. Well done boys.

Played 7, Won 3, Drew 2, Lost 2. Goals for 6 and against 5

Reffley 1-0 Dersingham 'A'
Excellent goalkeeping from Alfie Evans and a hard fought goal from Jake Mayes secured this win.

Reffley 0-3 Brandon
The boys struggled to recover from some defensive errors to end up losing but never gave up.

Reffley 1-3 Dereham
Dereham went ahead and the boys fought back well to equalize through Jake Mayes but the boys let Dereham back in with a soft goal and a last second third to end up losing their second of the morning.

TOURNAMENT REPORT

A fun day had by all the boys today as we represented Lyon of France in the Champions League and with the first match having sand kicked in their faces by a very strong Werder Bremen team they lost 7-0 yes SEVEN.

Their second match was against FC Porto and although we scored first through Will Hawes, Porto replied with 3 more to make it 3-1, another loss.

The boys rallied and still believing they could win the competition went on to score four in the next match against Man Utd!!!! 2 goals from Tommy Hillard and 1 each for Gavin Cooper & Sam Last with the final score 4-2 to Lyon.

Well done boys, I hope you all all enjoyed yourselves, the football wasn't bad but the sand castles were excellent!

REFFLEY SQUAD (Alfie Evans, Danny Setchell, Thomas Hillard, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve, Alex Brown, Jake Mayes, Michael Bibb and Robin Fisher)
TOURNAMENT REPORT

Reffley played well in the first game but lost 0-2 against Wisbech St Mary Purple and struggled with some very poor decisions made against them and in all honesty did very well to not lose faith and give up, they battled throughout this game and deserved much more.

The second game saw them gain confidence with a 2-0 win against Three Holes with a rather fortunate own goal and a typical Lewis Neve goal which yet again saw him involved numerous times before tapping in.

The next game saw the boys lose 0-2 to March Yellows and unfortunately some tired mistakes gave the game away rather cheaply.

The final game of our group went to Downham and yet again tiredness led to mistakes and the boys ended up with another 0-2 defeat. Keep putting the effort in boys and the results will improve. There were some good performances today so let's look to the next tournament and see if we can do better.

27 May 2007

REFFLEY SQUAD (Micheal Bibb (GK) Cameron Short, Owen Norris, Will Hawes, Danny Setchell, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve.)
TOURNAMENT REPORT

Reffley started strongly in the first game against Dereham Stripes and scored first through Ryan Higgins but the game finished 1-1.

Their second game saw them win 3-1 against Dereham Blacks with goals from Lewis Neve (2) and Ryan Higgins

The rain got harder and harder and the boys got wetter and colder and succumbed to the elements to lose the next game 0-2 to Firside 'A'.

Although all the boys were now soaked they bounced back to win the fourth game 2-0 against Norman Wanderers with both goals scored by Danny Setchell

Finally the boys had to win the last game against Wymondham Serpents to go through to the finals but could only manage a 0-0 draw.

What EXCELLENT attitude and character shown by these children today bearing in mind they were cold and wet for most of the day. Well done to you all.
