2007-08 MATCH REPORTS (as U9's)

REFFLEY 'B' U9's
Managers: Martin Higgins

19 APR 2008: MATTISHALL V REFFLEY 'B' (at Mattishall)

A fantastic performance from the Reffley team today who matched Mattishall all the way. The grit and determination showed was nearly rewarded when Ryan Higgins ran onto a pass from Gavin Cooper and hit a first time shot which hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out! Michael Bibb, Robin Fisher,Tommy Hillard & Josh Tinkler all worked hard and Lewis Neve off his sickbed played his part. The game was destined to be a draw until a deflection from a Reffley defender beat the keeper Alfie Evans just inside the post. Reffley continued to play some lovely flowing football but were thwarted by the Mattishall keeper. Congratulations to Mattishall who today won the league and congratulations to my team who fought throughout and were by no means outplayed.

19 APR 2008: ST. EDMUNDS PRIDE 0-1 REFFLEY

We lost Michael Bibb for this game however, as per the first match Reffley started and continued to play flowing football and were rewarded with a goal for Lewis Neve who was assisted from a Ryan Higgins corner. Defenders Tommy Hillard & Robin Fisher played a part with Alfie Evans saving all of St Edmunds efforts with a typical brave performance. Today's captain was Joshua Tinkler who ran his socks off and he was backed up in midfield by Gavin Cooper. The boys tired towards the end of the match and as we had no subs did very well to hang on.

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Robin Fisher, Gavin Cooper, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve, Tommy Hillard, Michael Bibb, Joshua Tinkler.

12 APR 2008: REFFLEY 'B' 0-1 EAST LYNN  (at Mattishall)

A very well played match between two local sides with fast flowing football seeing both teams have numerous chances throughout. 0-0 at half time the game was destined to be settled by one goal but unfortunately for Reffley it went to East Lynn with just a minute to go. The reffley keeper Alfie Evans performed heroics today with one of his saves which only a gymnast could have copied. Alfie however was not rewarded as Reffley's defence failed to clear a ball which just needed a kick but tiredness caught up with the boys in the end. Well done to East Lynn and very well done to all the Reffley boys today. Some excellent passing, movement and attitude was shown today of which I am extremely proud of.

12 APR 2008: REFFLEY 'B' 5-1 DERHAM WAND. (at Mattishall)

Reffley were just too strong today for Dereham as they played some fantastic football which saw them score in the second minute with quick one, two's played between Lewis Neve & Ryan Higgins which resulted in the first goal by Ryan Higgins. Moments later Both players were attacking again and with help from Gavin Cooper,Ryan returned the compliment for Lewis to score Reffley's second. Lewis continued the rout by adding a third halfway through the first half once again set up by Ryan who along with Lewis passed to each other twice in a sweeping move before Lewis scored his second. The teamwork was excellent and after Micheal Bibb had made some mazy runs from defence, Lewis picked the ball up and dribbled past three Dereham players and finished for his hat trick and Reffleys fourth. A goal worthy of Christiano Ronaldo!!!!!! Ryan Scored his second and the fifth just before half time after sqeezing in his rebounded effort after a good save from the Dereham keeper. Lewis & Ryan came off and were replaced by Jake Mayes and Joshua Tinkler but Reffley could not find another goal and Jake ended up missing a penalty. Well done to Dereham who were rewarded with a goal 5 mins from the end. Credit to Alfie and his defenders Robin, Tommy (C) & Michael who kept their concentration for the whole match.

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Tommy Hillard, Gavin Cooper, Ryan Higgins, Jake Mayes, Joshua Tinkler, Michael Bibb, Lewis Neve & Robin Fisher.

15 MAR 2008: MATTISHALL P-P REFFLEY (at Downham)

01 MAR 2008: REFFLEY 'B' 5-0 MARHAM (at Dereham)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Lewis Neve, Tommy Hillard, Gavin Cooper, Ryan Higgins, Robin Fisher, Michael Bibb, Joshua Tinkler & Jake Mayes.

Reffley dropped points earlier this season against Marham after drawing 0-0 but responded in the best possible way, scoring 5 and conceding 0. All the players performed today in extremely windy conditions on a sloped pitch at Dereham and at times played some great passing football. TOMMY HILLARD scored the first goal and this was followed by RYAN HIGGINS scoring the second, a long range effort which with the help of a deflection made it 2-0 at Half Time. LEWIS NEVE & JAKE MAYES came on for the second half and made an instant impact with LEWIS scoring the games third goal. The team from defence throughout gained in confidence and Jake scored the fourth & fifth goals after some quick attacking football involving MICHAEL BIBB, RYAN & LEWIS.

01 MAR 2008: REFFLEY 'B' 2-0 HILGAY (AT Dereham)

This result was extremely pleasing as the boys lost to Hilgay earlier this season. The boys battled and kept passing as in the previous game but were almost punished with the ONE & ONLY defensive error the Reffley boys made today. The boys had goalkeeper ALFIE EVANS to thank as he saved a one on one. And considering ALFIE had very little to do today it was an extremely important save. Alfie & the boys were then rewarded with the first goal after MICHAEL BIBB played the ball to JAKE MAYES in the centre and he fed a through ball wide to RYAN HIGGINS who placed the ball in the bottom corner. Reffley just got stronger as the match went on and the second half began with Reffley attacking Hilgay throughout GAVIN COOPER went close a few times and ROBIN FISHER tidied up in defence on numerous occaisions. The second goal came after RYAN had a shot saved and JOSHUA TINKLER scored his first goal of the season following up and looping the ball into Hilgay's net. The game finished 2-0.

Credit must go to all the players who worked so very hard as a team today in both fixtures.

16 FEB 2008: REFFLEY 'B' 0-2 TERRINGTON (League KO Cup Last 16) - at Reffley

Squad. Alfie Evans, Lewis Neve, Michael Bibb, Gavin Cooper, Tommy Hillard, Robin Fisher, Ryan Higgins, Joshua Tinkler & Jake Mayes.

Reffley started well only to go behind to a close range effort through the goalie's legs. Chances for Reffley at the other end were few and far between and Terrington killed the match with a second. Well done to Robin & Tommy who in defence worked hard throughout.

02 FEB 2008: REFFLEY 'B' 4-0 ST. EDMUNDS (at Reffley)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Lewis Neve,Robin Fisher,Gavin Cooper,Michael Bibb, Jake Mayes, Ryan Higgins, Joshua Tinkler & Tommy Hillard.

Lewis Neve scored all four goals in this match with Reffley leading 3-0 at half time. Ryan Higgins played a major part in this match setting up 3 of the four with the fourth goal in the second half directed in from a corner. Overall the boys played and concentrated well throughout this game and to beat a team we have drawn against twice this seson in very close matches was extremely pleasing.

02 FEB 2008: REFFLEY 1-1 DOCKING (at Reffley)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Lewis Neve,Robin Fisher,Gavin Cooper,Michael Bibb, Jake Mayes, Ryan Higgins, Joshua Tinkler & Tommy Hillard

The half hour gap between matches killed Reffley once again. The boys switched off from the previous match and came out a different team. Full credit to Docking who equalised a Ryan Higgins goal with a great effort, however from the coach's point of view this was a very poor show by the boys who never looked like the set of players from the previous game.

19 JAN 2008: DERSINGHAM 'A' P-P REFFLEY 'B' (at Tilney)

19 JAN 2008: TILNEY P-P REFFLEY 'B' (at Tilney)

08 DEC 2007: MATTISHALL 1-1 REFFLEY 'B' (at Hilgay)

Reffley battled throughout this game and played some good football. Mattishall scored first after a defensive error but Reffley equalised through hard work and some good passing which led to Ryan Higgins shooting against the post which was followed up and finished by Lewis Neve. Hard work, tackling  & more passing followed which was well backed up by Micheal Bibb & Robin Fisher in defence throughout the second half and Reffley were well deserving of the draw and the honour of ending Mattishall’s 100% record.

08 DEC 2007: HILGAY 1-0 REFFLEY 'B' (at Hilgay)

Chalk & Cheese describes the two performances of Reffley B today. The boys forgot how to tackle, they forgot how to listen, they stopped passing to each other and looked a shadow of the team that played Mattishall earlier. As frustrating as it was the weather did play a part and I have to concede the boys were getting very cold & wet.

However, well done to Hilgay who kept going and scored in the last minute to take all the points.  I hope the boys realise they can play a lot better and I look forward to seeing it in January.

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Michael Bibb, Robin Fisher, Gavin Cooper, Joshua Tinkler, Jake Mayes, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve & Tommy Hillard.

Finally Happy Christmas to the Reffley B Squad and I hope to see you all back in January raring to go!

17 NOV 2007: REFFLEY 'B' P-P DOWNHAM 'B' (at East Lynn)

17 NOV 2007: EAST LYNN V REFFLEY 'B' (at East Lynn) - Friendly

Awaiting Match Report...

03 NOV 2007:REFFLEY 'B' 0-0 MARHAM (at Reffley)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Michael Bibb, Gavin Cooper, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve, Robin Fisher, Jake Mayes & Tommy Hillard.

Both teams battled throughout this game but Reffley could not break down the Marham defence and a one young lady in particular was my choice for man(Miss) of the match with a solid performance for Marham.

03 NOV 2007: REFFLEY 'B' 5-0 DERSINGHAM 'A' (at Reffley)

Reffley stunned Dersingham early and kept the pressure on during both halves to earn an emphatic victory, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve (2), Tommy Hillard all scored and Gavin Cooper's efforts in the last few matches were rewarded as he also scored his first league goal for Reffley. Great effort all of you.

20 OCT 2007: REFFLEY 'B' 5-0 DOCKING (at Dersingham)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Jake Mayes, Gavin Cooper, Tommy Hillard, Ryan Higgins, Robin Fisher, Lewis Neve & Micheal Bibb.

Reffley always looked the stronger of these two teams but credit to Docking who made the game difficult for the first 15 minutes. Jake Mayes scored the opener which was followed by Ryan Higgins scoring direct from a corner making it 2-0 at half time. Reffley took command in the second half and Lewis Neve sored the third after good team play and more pressure was applied and Ryan Higgins scored the 4th and his second from outside the box. More passing led to the fifth goal which was a tap in created by some good passing which was scored by Ryan Higgins for his hat trick. A mention must go to Gavin Cooper who worked tirelessly for the whole game and helped create some of the goals today.

20 OCT 2007: REFFLEY 'B' 3-3 ST. EDMUNDS (at Dersingham) - Friendly)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Jake Mayes, Gavin Cooper, Tommy Hillard, Ryan Higgins, Robin Fisher, Lewis Neve & Micheal Bibb.

Great game saw two teams play two different halves. Reffley started stronger and took command of the game and went in at half time 3-0 up. Gavin Cooper scored the first and his first ever goal in a Reffley shirt which from his performance in the previous game was thoroughly deserved. Reffley kept the pressure on and scored two more goals from Tommy Hillard and Lewis Neve. The defenders Robin Fisher and Micheal Bibb with help from Gavin Cooper kept St Ed's at bay up to half time. The second half was a different game altogether with St Edmunds the stronger team who scored after a few minutes which raised their heads. The game changed and Reffley were defending more and more and although Alfie Evans was once again superb in goal his bravery was not backed up as his defence tired and began missing tackles. St Edmunds came back and scored two more and Reffley hung on to draw 3-3.

A very good effort today boys.

06 OCT 2007: DERSINGHAM 'A' 3-3 (Reffley won on pens) REFFLEY 'B' (at Dersingham) - Pre. Rnd. League KO Cup

Squad:- Ryan Higgins, Alfie Evans, Gavin Cooper, Robin Fisher, Micheal Bibb, Jake Mayes, Lewis Neve & Tommy Hillard.

Reffley won on penalties after extra time.

Both teams started off evenly in this game with Reffley scoring first through Tommy Hillard but conceding before half time just as they were settling down. The second half saw Reffley go ahead with a corner from Jake Mayes headed in by Lewis Neve a goal worthy of winning the match, however the defending gremlins struck again as Reffley forgot how to clear the ball and another equaliser followed. Full time 2-2 and into extra time, surely the next goal would win it which came from Jake Mayes for Reffley but Dersingham battled and took the game to penalties equalising with 30 seconds left leaving the score 3-3.

Penalties.  Ryan Higgins, Tommy Hillard & Jake Mayes scored and three fantastic saves from Alfie Evans took the penalties to sudden death. Alfie's exploits in goal continued as he saved the first penalty leaving the pressure on Ryan Higgins to win, he dispatched his second penalty into the roof of the net putting Reffley into the next round.

Well done boys and well done Dersingham A.

29 SEPT 2007: REFFLEY 'B' 1-1 EAST LYNN (at St. Edmunds)

Today's Squad:- Alfie Evans, Ryan Higgins, Lewis Neve, Michael Bibb, Gavin Cooper, Jake Mayes, Robin Fisher, Thomas Chase & Tommy Hillard.

Very hard fought draw between the two sides with East Lynn scoring first after a defensive mistake led to a corner which was followed by another error which saw East Lynn 1-0 up. What was impressive was the fightback which saw Reffley equalise and finish the stronger in the second half. The goal scored by Tommy Hillard was thorough reward for the whole teams efforts.

29 SEPT 2007: ST. EDMUNDS 1-1 REFFLEY 'B' (at St. Edmunds)

It was hard to split Reffley & St Ed's as they started this game strongly and both teams looked very equal in their attitude and abilities. Once again Reffley failed to clear out of defence and after a mad 15 seconds of one touch pinball St Ed's scored the first goal of the game. 1-0 down the second half took another turn and Reffley began to believe in themselves and started to look the stronger team. Unlucky not to be awarded a penalty the resulting corner led to Lewis Neve scrambling an equaliser which just rolled over the line after hitting the post.

Excellent fighting back to draw both games after going down 1-0 in both. Keep working hard boys, well done to you all.

22 SEPT 2007: DEREHAM WAND. 2-2 REFFLEY (at Dereham)

Squad:- Alfie Evans, Tommy Hillard, Lewis Neve, Thomas Chase, Gavin Cooper, Ryan Higgins, Robin Fisher, Michael Bibb & Jake Mayes.

Great first game of the season saw two very equal teams battle out a hard fought draw. Reffley on two occasions going in front with goals from Lewis Neve and Tommy Hillard only to see each effort equalised.

22 SEPT 2007: REFFLEY 'B' 3-2 TILNEY (at Dereham)

A goal down in the first few minutes and a slow start saw Reffley struggle but after a leveller from Jake Mayes the boys confidence grew and they went in at half time 3-1 up with further goals from Lewis Neve and Tommy Hillard. The second half saw both teams battling and as tiredness started to creep into the Reffley team mistakes began and although Tilney scored a break away goal fortunately the boys held on for a hard fought win.

Today's Man of the Match was too hard to call for both games as you all had to work very hard. Well done to you all.
