26 APR 2008: TILNEY 0-7 REFFLEY

Reffley Squad: Wilkinson, Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley,  Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Russell.

DEJA-VU  FOR REFFLEY

Reffley started the season back in September with a 7-0 win score line away to  Tilney and completed their season with a 7-0 away win against Tilney on 20th April. Reffley completed their league season in style. After 5 weeks without a game,  they were quick to settle, with Sam Smalley opening the scoring after just five minutes, the ball was cleared from a corner which found Smalley lurking just outside the penalty box to lob the keeper. Reffley continued to press, but were unable to penatrate the Tilney keeper. They were also eluded by the bar on three occasions. It was 25 minutes before Reffley increased their lead, when Sam Smalley was again on hand to slot home. Number  three came on the stroke of half time, when leading scorer Anthony Rice beat the defence to a through ball to stab the ball past the approaching keeper.

Half Time Tilney 0 v Reffley 3

Just two minutes into the second half, Charlie Collier was on hand to increase the lead with a well worked goal after being put through by Rice. Seven minutes later Ryan Lucas collected a loose ball to again stab past the on- coming keeper. Anthony Rice scored number six on forty-three minutes, after some good approach work by Russell and Harris. Reffley defence of Swales, Webb, Fysh and Bailey were never troubled. Keeper Wilkinson was a spectator for most of the game. Reffley’s seventh goal came in the fiftieth minute when Man of the Match Sam Smalley completed his hat-trick with again a well taken goal from the edge of the Tilney box.

Dispite the 7-0 score line Tilney never gave up, and were a credit to their coaches.

Reffley has had a very succesful first season playing ‘11 a side’ winning the Mid Norfolk Youth under 12’s Division Two.

16 MAR 2008: LITCHAM 0-12 REFFLEY

Wilkinson, Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley, Bowerman, Lucas,Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Clarke, Russell.

Reffley travelled to the heart of Norfolk, on a very wet and windy morning for their penultimate Mid Norfolk Div 2 league match, knowing a win would secure the league title. Litcham won the toss and decided to kick with the wind hoping for some early advantages, but it took just one minute for their thoughts to be dashed, and for Reffley to take control, when Smalley intercepted a poor keeper clearance to float the ball back goalwards which the keeper was unable to collect. However the ball stopped in the mud but Charlie Collier was on hand to stab home. Dispite the wind, Reffley continued to pressure and on seven minutes Billy Russell was on hand to double the score. Charlie Collier scored two further goals on 16 and 29 minutes to complete a first half hat-trick,  Jared Clarke on 19 minutes and Ryan Lucas on 30 minutes to make the score at half time.

Half Time: Litcham 0 v Reffley 6

Now with the match and league all but won, Reffley made some substitutions and positional changes. Collier took on the keepers jersey and the defence changed places with the strikers and midfield. Further goals were soon to follow, Harry Bailey on thirty-four minutes, Nathan Bowerman on thirty-nine,(his first goal for the club) Sam Smalley on forty-five, Ben Swales on fifty minutes, Stuart Webb on fifty-six, (his first goal for the club) and in injury time normal keeper Jake Wilkinson scoring his first ever goal for the club.

Twelve goals, with ten scorers, the only three players not to score were Fysh, Rice and Harris but the all played a big part in helping the three players to score their first goals for the club. A great team result, and the Manager awarded the whole team as players of the match.

09 MAR 2008: REFFLEY 6-0 HILGAY

Wilkinson, Swales, Webb, Harris, Smalley, Spencer, Bowerman, Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Clarke,  Russell.

Reffley started nervously with this latest ‘must win’ game if they are to continue their quest to become league champions. Hilgay started the better, with them coming at Reffley, but as in recent weeks, keeper Wilkinson and the defence of Swales, Webb, Fysh and Bowerman were well organised, supported by the midfield of Spencer, Smalley, Harris and Rice. As Reffley settled and pushed forward, they started to create chances.  On fifteen minutes they won a corner. Russell floated the ball into the near post from the left for Anthony Rice to head in. Just four minutes later,  from another Russell corner, this time from the right to the far post for Charlie Collier to rifle home. Hilgay battled well, but Reffley were now if control with nerves now settled down they were playing some nice football.

Half time: Reffley 2-0 Hilgay

Now with the wind and slope in Reffley’s favour they continued to push for further goals. On thirty-eight minutes Rice was fouled. David Fysh stepped up to take the resulting free kick, to score with a superb strike from 30 yards. Reffley brought on Lucas, Clarke and Bailey who all slotted into their roles well. Anthony Rice was on hand to score his second with a fine solo effort on forty-one minutes. Number five came on fifty-two minutes, from a Lucas centre to the far post which found  Sam Smalley on hand to slot home from close range. Then on fifty-six minutes it was Ryan Lucas who rounded off the result after being put through by Swales.

Final Result: Reffley 6-0 Hilgay

Reffley Man of the match: Nathan Bowerman

02 MAR 2008: DOWNHAM 'B' 0-6 REFFLEY

Reffley Squad: Wilkinson, Swales,Harris, Webb, Smalley, Bowerman, Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Spencer, Clarke, Cooper and Russell.

Following on from last weeks encounter with Downham B, it took Reffley just seven minutes to break through the five man midfield. Charlie Collier scoring twice in two minutes. The first he beat the approaching keeper to a Smalley through ball, then just two minutes later, this time from a Rice through ball, to settle any early nerves. Downham battled well, but again the Reffley defence of Swales, Webb, Fysh and Bowerman were well organised to protect keeper Wilkinson. The midfield of Lewis, Smalley, Harris and Rice were now running the game and it was from midfield, the next goal came. Anthony Rice scoring from 20 yards after 23 minutes after beating two players.

Half Time  Downham 0 v  Reffley 3

Reffley made changes at half time, Cooper coming into defence, Clarke in midfield and Lucas up front. The game was put well out of Downham’s reach with a very well taken second half hat-trick by Ryan Lucas. Using lightning speed to latch on to through balls with goals coming on 41, 42 and 47 minutes. Russell came close late on, but was thwarted by the Downham keeper.

Downham rallied and began to settle, but the Reffley keeper Wilkinson, and the defence of Swales, Harris, Webb, Fysh and Bowerman were always ready and able to clear any danger. Reffley’s midfield of Smalley and Marshall-Grint, Rice and Bailey were well in control and it was from the midfield that the next goal came, when Lewis Spencer cut in from the right to score from a narrow angle on fourteen minutes.

Charlie Collier on nineteen minutes to complete his hat-trick and Anthony Rice twenty-eight minutes scored further first half goals to round off a very good half.

Half time:  Reffley 7-0 Downham 'B'

Now with the wind at their backs Reffley pushed forward but to Downham’s credit they battled well. It took until the fortieth minute for Anthony Rice to complete his hat-trick. Ryan Lucas after several chances and some very good runs down the right scored his first of the match on forty-six minutes. Defender Jack Harris got in on the act with an outside of the foot lob in the fifty-first minute. 03 FEB 2008: OUTWELL 2-5 REFFLEY

Wilkinson, Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley, Spencer, Bowerman, Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Marshall-Grint, Clarke, Russell.

Reffley travelled to third place Outwell, for this must win match for top of the table Reffley. Any early nerves were soon settled, with less than 1 minute on the clock, Billy Russell latched on to a through pass from Collier to beat the approaching keeper. Five minutes later Anthony Rice found himself clear of the pack, to slot past the keeper to make it 2-0. Just one minute later it was 3-0 when once again Billy Russell beat the keeper to his right. Outwell seemed to rally, but any attack was soon squashed by the defence of Swales, Webb, Fysh, and Bowerman.

Midfielders Spencer, Smalley, Marshall-Grint and Harris were all battling well. But with just three minutes to half time Outwell scored with an over the top lob, which was just too high for the previously un-troubled keeper Wilkinson to reach.

Half Time 1-3

Now with the wind at their backs Reffley pushed forward with Lucas having several good runs. It was Outwell who scored next, with a breakaway and a long range, high lob similar to their first goal. The two goal, cushion was restored just 4 minutes later, a Rice corner was colleted by Jacob Marshall-Grint to shoot high in the left hand corner of the net. Outwell once again pulled another goal back with a striker for once beating the defence to a through ball to slot past keeper Wilkinson . Then on 53 minutes, Reffley again scored to give them a two goal lead, Lewis Spencer beating two defenders to a through ball to rifle past a stranded keeper.

Final score Outwell Swifts 3 v Reffley 5

The Reffley squad all had good games but the Man of the match was given jointly,  to David Fysh and Jacob Marshall-Grint by the Referee.

27 JAN 2008: MATTISHALL 3-2 REFFLEY - Sub. Cup Q/F

Wilkinson, Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley,  Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Carter, Cooper, Russell

Reffley travelled to Mattishall for this quarter field Sub cup match with only 12 players. They were soon put under pressure by their opponents and were one down within the first minute when the defence failed to clear after some hesitation. Thing got worse for Reffley when striker Collier had to come off four minutes later with a mussel strain.

Mattishall continued to pressure Reffley and increased their lead on 10 minutes when once again the defence failed to clear.

Then on 19 minutes they were three up, this time a defender failing to control the ball before slipping over which allowed the Mattishall striker to run clear with a one on one with the keeper to make it 3-0 to the home team.

Reffley seem to rally and reduced the deficit on 25 minutes with a well-taken goal by the hard working Anthony Rice.

Half time 3-1

Now with nothing to lose Reffley attacked and on 37 minutes Anthony Rice was once again on hand to collect the ball from a bad goal kick by the keeper to reduce the arrears. Reffley were now well on top and had several chances to equalise but were thwarted by the Mattishall keeper who had a fine game. It was not to be their day.!!

The game them developed into a real battle, with both team playing well. Marshall-Grint, Spencer and Smalley were all having good games in the mid-field. When called upon, Swales, Webb, Fysh and Bowerman were working well in defence to support and protect keeper Wilkinson. A rear error allowed Mattishall to get behind the defence and on 22 minutes equalised. Reffley knuckled down and had the better of the half with several chances going their way. With just three minutes of the half remaining their work paid off. With Charlie Collier collecting the ball from a throw in to Rifle past the keeper.

Half Time: Reffley 2-1 Mattishall

The second half continued much as the first, both side battling well. Then on 41 minutes Mattishall were awarded a free kick some 30 yards out. The kick was lofted over the wall to be miss headed by a Reffley defender to allow the Running in Mattishall striker to slot home the equaliser.

With things now getting very urgent, Reffley continued two press forward, Lucas put several very good crosses in from the right, but it was from the left Reffley scored again.

A solo effort on 52 minutes  by Anthony Rice, and possibly the best goal of the game, beating three players, before looking up to see the keeper slightly off his line to score from a very tight angle.

Reffley were at this stage having the best of the play, and wasted four easy chances before Charlie Collier beat the defence again, this time to slot the ball past  the approching keeper at this near post.

With just 3 minutes left of the first half Hilgay attacked down the left. They keeper was beaten with the ball heading towards the goal, chased by a Defender and a Hilgay player. As the defender was about to clear the ball, he was wrestled to the ground. Dispite a protest the goal was aloud to stand .

The second half started well with  Reffley doing most of the attacking. But is wasn’t to be their day. They were just unable to get the ball in the back of the net.

With just 8 minutes left on the clock, Hilgay were awarded a free-kick some 20 yards out, as a result the ball beat all to end up in the back of the net.

Dispite continued pressure Hilgay’s defence held firm.for the last few minutes.

The Midfield of Bailey, Smalley, Cooper and Rice were all all joining the strikers Russell and Collier.

Wilkinson Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley, Spencer, Bowerman, Lucas, Fysh, Rice, Collier, Marshall -Grint, Clarke, Russell.

Well in control Reffley brought on the first of their substitutes, Charlie Collier was only on the pitch for four minutes when he headed home from a Russell centre. Then just one minute later he scored his second, being first to react after a goalmouth scramble to the ball by himself, the Tilney keeper and a defender.

Half Time 6-0

Now with the wind at their backs, any thoughts Tilney may have had, getting back into the game was soon gone, with just one minute of the half gone Lewis Spencer collected a loose ball just outside the Tilney area to rifle home from twenty yards.

Ryan Lucas added his name to the list of scorers when with his lightning speed he beat the Tilney defence and the keeper to the ball.

Charlie Collier completed his hat-trick on forty-nine minutes. Then with time now running out Anthony Rice scored this second and with just two minutes left on the clock Man of the Match Sam Smalley scored his second of the afternoon and Reffley’s eleventh.

Reffley Squad: Wilkinson,  Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley, Spencer, Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Mashall-Grint ,Clarke,  Cooper, Russell.

RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

Reffley entertained one of their nearest rivals, and the game certainly lived up to expectations.

As has been the case recently, Reffley were slow to settle down, going behind after 6 minutes from a very soft shot, with keeper Wilkinson having the ball well covered but for it to take a very bad bounce at the last second to go over his head.

Reffley were soon attacking and were back level after 12 minutes when the ball  rebounding to Anthony Rice for him to slot home.

The play was very even with chances being missed at both ends, but it was Reffley who took the lead on 23 minutes. From a Russell corner, Charlie Collier rifled in.

Half Time 2 – 1.

Reffley made a couple of changes, and were 3-1 up on 37 minutes. After an error this time by the Outwell keeper, Lewis Spencer was on hand to beat the defence to the ball and slot it into the empty net.

Outwell to their credit did not give up, and on 41 minutes, they reduced the deficit   after a mix up in the Reffley defence.

With just seven minutes left, Reffley were two goals clear again. Fysh found Smalley who’s pass split the Outwell defence for Ryan Lucas to outpace the defence and  beat the approaching keeper.

With just 2 minutes left on the clock Outwell once again reduced the deficit to leave the Reffley supporters looking at their watches in anticipation of the final whistle.

Reffley Man of The Match: Ryan Lucas

18 NOV 2007: DERSINGHAM V REFFLEY - (League KO Cup - Last 16)

Wilkinson, Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley, Lucas, Collier, Bowerham, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Clarke, Cooper, Russell.

Played on a very cold and bitter afternoon, Reffley were outplayed by their first division opponents.

Reffley did battle well in several areas and all credit they never gave up trying. Collier, up front lead the line and battled well, Harris, Smalley and Rice in midfield worked well.

Charlie Collier scored for Reffley. Half time 1 v 5 but for some outstanding saves by Wilkinson the score line could well have been greater.

Now with the wind at their backs Reffley pushed forward but were unable to penetrate the Dersingham Defence

Reffley's defence of Swales, Harris, Fysh, Bowerman and Cooper battled well but were unable to keep their well organised opponents at bay.

Final score Reffley 1-10 Dersingham

11 NOV 2007: MATTISHALL 4-3 REFFLEY

Squad: Wilkinson, Swales, Harris, Webb, Smalley,  Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Clarke, Carter, Cooper, Russell .

Reffley traveled to Mattishall for this Top of the table clash on remembrance Sunday but it’s a day they perhaps might like to forget as they came away with their first league loss of the season.

Mattishall took the lead after just five minutes, after Reffley’s defence failed to clear the ball from their penalty area.

Then on 13 minutes the score line was level, from a Russell corner, Anthony Rice slotted home from close range.

Both teams battled well, and some very good football as played by both teams.  But it was Mattishall who took the advantage with two goals both down to defensive errors to go into the break 3-1 up.

Reffley upped their game at the start of the second half, and were soon on level terms, Anthony Rice, beat the keeper well on 36 minutes and Charlie Collier on 38 minutes was  first to react, after the Mattishall defence this time failed to clear.

Reffley now had the initiative and were pressing for the lead, but from a break away Mattishall once again took the lead.

Despite Reffley’s effort, they were unable to get back on terms, mainly due to an outstanding display by the Mattishall keeper.

Reffley’s MotM: Awarded by the Referee was David Fysh.

04 NOV 2007: REFFLEY 20-0 LITCHAM

Reffley started slowly however but for some solid defense and good goalkeeping would have been more than 5-0 up at half time.

Some good approach play and finishing in the second half saw all the forwards and attacking midfield score nimbers of goals whilst the defense was well organised and secure at all times.

A 20-0 score line was fully deserved with a great sporting attitude shown by both sides.

Reffley MotM:  Billy Russell

Anthony Rice completed his 4th and 5th on 41 and 48 minutes with both Daniel Howlett 40 minutes and David Fysh 54 minutes completed the  0-27 scorline.

Reffley now seemed to settle a bit better and increased their lead on 27 minutes, when Anthony  Rice slotted home number two.

Reffley Squad: Swales, Webb, Smalley, Spencer, Bowerman, Lucas, Fysh, Rice, Marshall -Grint, Bailey, Sheard, Clarke, Carter and Cooper.

Playing their first home match of the season, it took just 7 minutes for Reffley to take the lead, with a solo effort from Anthony Rice to dribble by 3 defenders to slot the ball past the oncoming keeper.

The score remained 1-0 with Reffley well in control. Stand-in keeper Bowerman was never troubled by the Southery forwards. The defence of Swales, Webb, Fysh and Sheard soon cleared any dangers. They were supported by the midfield of Bailey, Carter, Smalley and Clarke.

It wasn’t until the 24th  minute, before Reffley increased their lead. Swales played the ball through to Lucas who centred for Jared Clarke to round the keeper and slot home from close range to score his first goal for the club.

Straight from the kick off Reffley attacked and Anthony Rice, beating two players lobbed the ball over the keepers head 3-0.

Four minutes later, and with one minute remaining of the first half Harry Bailey pounced on the ball from a defensive error, to score his first league goal for the club. HT 4-0.

With regular Wilkinson injured, Reffley changed keepers, Sheard took up the gloves. They also brought on Cooper and Marshall-Grint, and with just 1 minute played of the second half, Anthony Rice completed his second hat-trick, in as many weeks.

Now very much in control, several chances went begging, but it wasn’t until the 47th  minute before they scored again. Reward for the hard working, and Reffley Man of the Match, Sam Smalley, to latch onto a poor clearance to rifle home from 25 yards.

Then in injury time, from a Lucas corner, and a miss-timed clearance, the ball came out to David Fysh who beat the keeper to his left to make the final score Reffley 7 Southery 0.

23 SEPT 2007: TILNEY 0-7 REFFLEY

Reffley Squad: Wilkinson, Swales, Webb, Smalley, Bowerman, Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Clarke, Carter and Cooper.

Reffley won the toss and decided to kick with the very strong wind blowing straight down the field.

This seemed to work well with Anthony Rice putting them ahead after just 6 minutes.

Then on 15 minutes Ryan Lucas doubled Reffley’s lead when he beat the Tilney defence from  a through ball by  Rice.

It took a further 9 minutes for Reffley’s third. From a Fysh corner Ben Swales side footed it passed the approaching keeper.

Reffley continued to press with Collier going close on several occasions. With just two minutes left before the break Anthony Rice was on hand to score his second and Reffley’s fourth.

A first half dominated by Reffley, with keeper Wilkinson only having to touch the ball on four occasions.

Now with the wind at their backs Tilney came at Reffley and were close to scoring from a succession of corners, but  the defence of Bowerman , Webb, Fysh and Swales doing well to keep them out.

Reffley were now adapting to the wind and starting to play the ball out of defence, Carter cleared to Lucas who put Collier through with just the keeper to beat, but was brought down from behind. The resulting penalty was put wide by Reffley.

Now well in control again, Reffley pushed forward and were rewarded with possibly the best goal of the game. On 40 minutes, from a Lucas corner, Collier passed to Smalley, then to Fysh to centre in a curling ball in the Tilney box for Brandon Cooper to header home his first goal for the club.

Just one minute later Ryan Lucas pounced  onto a loose ball to make it six.

Several further chances went begging, but with just 4 minutes left on the clock Man of the Match: Anthony Rice completed his hatrick to round off a very satisfactory match for Reffley.

16 SEPT 2007: OUTWELL SWIFTS 1-6 REFFLEY

Reffley Squad: Wilkinson, Swales, Webb, Smalley, Spencer, Bowerman, Lucas, Collier, Fysh, Rice, Bailey, Clarke, Carter, Cooper.

Reffley took control of this, their first 11 a side league match - after just two minutes with a well taken goal by Ryan Lucas.

They increased their lead with a 30 yard free kick from David Fysh beating the keeper to his left, after Rice was floored from behind.

Reffley eased off but were never troubled, then on 23 minutes Ryan Lucas increased the lead further, after an over the top clearance from the Reffley defence, saw him  outrun the Outwell defence  to slot home.

Then with 29 minutes on the clock Anthony Rice beat two players  before lobbing the ball over the approaching keeper to make it 4-0.

From the kick off, Smalley robbed the ball from an Outwell player, to send Rice down the right wing, and from his centre Charlie Collier headed over the out of position keepers head. 0-5 half time.

Now with the breeze at their backs, Outwell came at Reffley and were finally rewarded with a goal on 42 minutes.

Some very scrappy football then followed. With Reffley now back in control, they had to wait well into injury time to score again. From a Lucas corner, the ball ran through to Spencer, then to Smalley and Fysh for their  shots all to be cleared, but Ben Swales was in the right position to slot the third clearance past the keeper.

All the squad had good games but Man of the Match was given to David Fysh.
