April 2006: REFFLEY 1-3 HOLBEACH
Squad from: Swales, Tuck, Mitchell, Child, Abbott, Browne,
Heaton, Smalley, Witt, Flack, Watson, Taylor.
After a disappointing game at Heacham the squad had put in extra training
and this reflected well in today's game. An excellent turn out of
supporters for our last league game of the season seemed to spur the girls
performance on producing some of the best football of the season.
A delayed kick off due to the Holbeach team getting held up with Car Boot
traffic knocked the confidence of the Reffley team for a while and
unfortunately allowed Holbeach to score. Not happy to accept that the
girls took the game to Holbeach and moved the ball around well against a
physical Holbeach side but found it difficult at times to reach Flack and
Witt out on the wings. Browne put one over the bar and scuffed another
round the post, Witt had several deflected off for corners but Holbeach
somehow managed to find another very lucky goal which then set the Reffley
girls into action, putting constant pressure on the Holbeach goal. Corner
after corner was floated across but a strong goalkeeper kept Reffley at
bay until Taylor from outside the box picked up the loose ball and fired
it straight back into the goal for her 1st and one of the best goals of
our season.
Reffley found more confidence from this and came out after the half time
break determined to look for more goals. Changing the formation slightly
and bringing Smalley on confused the Holbeach team and Reffley spent most
of the second half pounding their goal but with no success. Training practice
had obviously worked as the girls tried everything they could to find that
elusive goal. Unfortunately they were tiring being unaccustomed to playing
in the sun and a lack of communication allowed the Holbeach sub to pick
the ball up taking it down the wing and score a good third goal for
Holbeach. Reffley made a couple of changes putting Child in goal and
Mitchell in at left back to try to turn things around but time was against
them.
MotM:- Taylor for the outstanding goal and a confident captains role
again.
Keep those heads up though girls. This was one of the best performances of
the season from you. We have lots to build on now and know what we need to
prepare ready for next season. Well done girls in a very tough league for
your first season, many of you were playing above your age group but have
given us an impressive games during this first season against all odds.

MotM: from Heacham game - Witt persistent against the odds.

March 2006: REFFLEY 2-0 DERSINGHAM
Squad: Swales, Taylor, Tuck, Moyse, Witt, Browne, Flack,
Watson, Heaton, Abbott, Smalley.
After a stern pre match talk, Reffley emerged from the changing rooms with
a more determined attitude. The captain took charge of the warm up and
rallied her squad well for the kick off. The starting lineup took the game
to a much improved Dersingham team, attacking from the first whistle
instead of the usual slow start. Browne, Flack and Witt were spurred on by
Moyse's control of the midfield and they all worked very well going
forward, although were a little slow getting back into position. A first
class performance form the Dersingham goalie prevented the forward line
from scoring, until a lucky break by Flack, ricocheted off the
keeper and managed to find the back of the net. Browne, Flack, Witt and
Moyse had several shots on target but one of the best performances from an
opposition goalie this season only gave us one goal lead at half time.
Dersingham goalie saved a thundering shot destined for goal from Browne
but unfortunately injured her wrist and had to be replaced for the
restart. Reffley were beginning to tire and were glad to hear the half
time whistle.
After a delayed restart to allow Dersingham to warm up a replacement
goalie, Reffley again took the game to a determined Dersingham side.
Heaton and Smalley went on to give some fresh legs but struggled to
control Dersingham. Flack, carrying an injured ankle from last night,
returned alongside Browne and picked up the performance. Dersingham fought
hard to find the Reffley net but another strong performance from Tuck and
Taylor in defence and Swales controlling her area, stopped any problems.
Swales fired the ball back up field to the forward line who through some
very neat passing found Flack free who fired home for her second.
Watson was unlucky not to make it three after some superb keeping from the
stand-in goalie. Excellent teamwork from Reffley won them this hard fought
game.
MOM - both Dersingham keepers. We need to keep this standard up over our
next few games...

March 2006: CLENCHWARTON 2-1 REFFLEY
Squad: Swales, Taylor, Tuck, Smalley, Flack, Witt, Browne, Watson
With a depleted side due to a late kick off and illness, the team started
slowly, but eventually took control over a strong, physical Clenchwarton
side on very heavy ground. The end-to-end action took its toll on all of
the players. Clenchwarton made several good runs but were hounded by our
defence and an on-form Tuck and superb goalkeeping by Swales stopped them
in their tracks. Reffley counter-attacked quickly and effectively and
worked much better as a team compared to recent matches. Flack stormed
down the wing firing a cross through to Browne who found the back
of the net despite the Clenchwarton goalie's efforts. Instead of spurring
the girls on, they became complacent for the remainder of the first half.
After the restart, Clenchwarton came back out looking for a goal and
although Reffley tried hard to keep them at bay with some outstanding
play, they eventually allowed the Clenchwarton girls room to find the back
of our net. Swales kept her head through several corners and commanded the
goal area very well at times. Tuck took a ball in the face but stuck to
her guns to keep her area clear and Taylor found herself being more
physical than normal Flack struggled to free herself from some very strong
marking which limited her performance but allowed Smalley and Witt to take
the ball across to Browne. Browne had a number of shots on target but
unfortunately they were all well saved. Watson came on to relieve Flack
and took on a very physical opponent in her stride and helped to free Witt
to take a shot on goal.
The referee added on and abundance of additional minutes at the end of
normal time and this enabled Clenchwarton time to find the Reffley net for
the winner. The Reffley girls should take heart from this performance and
is was definitely one of their best of the season.
Reffley MotM: A unanimous vote from the team for Emily Swales, with
Kathryn Tuck a close second from the coach's viewpoint.

February 2006: REFFLEY 0-7 WOOTTONS
Squad - E Swales, H Abbott, L Taylor, K Tuck, D Smalley, S Browne, C
Witt, A Flack. S Watson, E Heaton, N Child.
A very disappointing game as the Woottons turned out with the
determination to take the game to the home team and unfortunately Reffley
stumbled at the first hurdle. Reffley struggle to defend well and have to
learn quickly from some of the mistakes they made in this game,
particularly with respect to working as a coherent team. Woottons took a
0-3 lead into half time.
Tuck was replaced at half time due to a knock on the ankle and after the
restart the team soon appeared to make up some ground with Browne,
Flack and Witt all making good runs only to find that there was no support
from midfield. The marking of Wootton's players was non-existent which
allowed them too much space to take shots on goal. Three more goals found
the back of the net and after a second change of 'keeper, Woottons added a
seventh.
Thanks to Natasha for stepping in at short notice as substitute. Reffley's
girls know they can play better than this, by concentrating on
playing as a team.
Reffley's MotM: Witt for a tireless effort up and down the wing and
support of her defence.

February 2006: WALPOLE 3-0 REFFLEY
Squad: E Swales, H Abbott, L Taylor, K Tuck, D Smalley, S
Browne, A Flack, C Witt, S Watson, N Child, E Heaton.
Expectations were high after our last match but a somewhat disheveled
start allowed Walpole to find the net twice early on. A few harsh words
from Taylor and Tuck in defence reminded the team what was expected and
with Smalley taking her place in midfield after 15 minutes, the team
settled down.
Walpole were allowed a dubious handball which they floated in over everyone's
heads for their 3rd.
Half time saw the girls do their usual rallying around and they restarted
a much more confident side.
Unfortunately lady luck again passed them by with Witt firing several
shots straight into the goalkeeper's hands and then a rebound just over
the crossbar. Browne, Flack and Watson all had attempts on goal but
nothing seemed to phase the Walpole 'keeper who looked comfortable from
every angle. Flack tried to catch her out with a low shot but again the
Walpole defence found a way to stop it reaching the back of their
net.
Walpole tried again unsuccessfully to penetrate the Reffleydefence but a
confident Swales in goal brushed the ball to the side for a corner which
Taylor dealt with in her usual competent manner. Taylor took an knock and
twisted an ankle late on but fresh legs didn't have enough time to cause
any problems. The final 0-3 again didn't justify the standard of play from
the Reffley girls.
MotM: Again no single player as the whole team all worked well.

January 2006: REFFLEY 5-0 TILNEY
Tilney struggled to field a side and decided to go with only 6 players. In
spite of this their keeper made up for their shortfall. Reffley took the
game to Tilney from this first whistle. The team communicated well amongst
themselves and played outstanding football. They brought their work from
the training field into the match. Flack found the net early on,
which spurred the whole team on to play some of their best football of the
season.
Taylor and Tuck commanded the defence well and any Tilney attack was
comfortably dealt with. Reffley's strong wingers, Flack and Witt, were
able to collect any balls cleared, hold up play and allow the team to
steady itself. Smalley took control of midfield and set up Browne,
who found the net and Flack scored again to take the half time
score to 3. The Tilney girls kept their heads up and some unbelievable
goalkeeping prevented Reffley scoring more goals.
A changed team at half time saw Tuck replaced by Swales in defence and
Watson came on up front for Browne. Reffley soon took command again with
all their forwards looking to score. Smalley had several attempts stopped
as did Witt. With Mitchell coming on for Witt, Flack always looked
dangerous and, with a hat-trick in sight, she duly found the back of the
net again for her third.
Not content to sit back, the onslaught continued with Watson, Taylor,
Smalley all having balls saved or narrowly missing the target. Flack,
ever present on the wing found the net for her 4th and apart from a late
attack by Tiney, who hit the crossbar, Reffley had the game sewn up, with
Abbott in goal to having very little to deal with.
Well done girls for a superb show of team work and at long last the goals
that everyone new you had in you.
Let's keep this up over the next few games and show everyone what we are
made of.
MotM - again the whole team for wonderful team spirit and encouragement.
Tilney MotM - their 'keeper for a wonderful display in goal.

January 2006: WISBECH ACORNS 2-0 REFFLEY (KO Cup: Pre. Round)
Squad - Abbott, Swales, Tuck, Taylor, Smalley, Watson, Browne, Witt,
Flack, Heaton, Mitchell
A very strong start from both sides in this vital Knock Out Cup game on an
extremely heavy pitch. End-to-end play saw Wisbech eventually break the
deadlock with an unlucky deflection into Abbott's net.
Half time saw Wisbech go in 1 - 0. In the second half, Swales took over in
goal looking very confident and commanding her area well, in defending a
number of Wisbech corners. Again, the game was very open, as Reffley
seemed to get on top as the Wisbech players tired with no subs. to call
upon.
Reffley used they squad well, making a number of substitutions to maintain
an advantage. Witt, Smalley, Flack and Browne all had shots on target but
the Wisbech goalie saved them comfortably. However, another attack from
Wisbech saw them find the back of the Reffley net for their second, close
to the final whistle (0-2).
Well done to the Jo, the Wisbech referee in one of her first games as a
ref. A sterling all round performance by ALL of the Reffley team with the
result again not going quite their way.
Reffley's MotM - the whole team as every player gave 100% by picking their
game up after the defeat at Holbeach.
Good Luck to Wisbech Acorns, like us playing in a league above their age
against much bigger opponents. We look forward to meeting them again in a
friendly later in the year.

8 Janaury 2006: HOLBECH 10-0 REFFLEY
Squad: E Swales, L Taylor, K Tuck, C Witt, A Flack, D Smalley,
E Heaton, S Browne, H Abbott, S Watson
Contrary to the final result, the match was predominantly controlled
by Reffley. The game was delayed while the Holbeach manager collected a
player who they could not afford to start without. Her height played a
vital role in the game but other than that Reffley dominated the midfield
and forward areas.
Reffley conceded three very early goals before they got their heads
together and took control.
Despite some sterling efforts in defence, coupled with the Reffley 'keeper
making a number of good saves, Holbeach went in at half time 7-nil up. After the restart, Helen Abbott
made her return between the posts after a long absence and together with Heaton dropping back into defence,
this made a huge difference. Only poor finishing stopped Reffley from stealing
the game with many shots clipping the post or going fractionally
wide.
An exceptional all round team performance from the Reffley girls,
particularly in the 2nd half with them allowing only 3 more shots to find
the net. Well done girls on a superb display of how you can play team
football. Keep it up! MotM - the whole team.
Comment from Holbeach manager "We were outplayed but put away all
of our chances relying heavily on one player."

December 2005: NORTH LYNN 9-0 REFFLEY
Squad - E. Swales, K. Tuck (Capt.), L. Taylor, A. Flack, S.
Browne, C. Witt, K. Mitchell, S. Watson, E. Heaton, D. Smalley, T. King.
North Lynn won the toss and had the benefit of the wind behind them, of
which they took full advantage. Unfortunately, the Reffley 'keeper, could
not keep the North Lynn attack at bay in the first half but the team still
rallied around each other. In bitterly cold conditions, Taylor took a bad
knock in a fair tackle and had to be replaced. Browne went off early in
the first half due to illness, which left Reffley struggling a
little.
Flack made a couple of good runs in the second half from but no goals came
from them. The final score was 0-9, however, it did not reflect the
overall team performance under the conditions. Well done girls.
Reffley MotM - Heaton achieved everything asked of her.

December 2005: REFFLEY 1-12 HEACHAM
Squad - Emily Swales, Kathryn Tuck, Kelly Mitchell, Natasha
Child, Antonia Flack, Sammy Browne, Chloe Witt (Capt), Daniella Smalley,
Ellen Heaton, Helen Abbott.
This week saw a changed squad this week due to Lily Taylor being
unavailable to play and the demise of Manager Lin earlier in the week due
to appendicitis and was unable to be on the touchline with the girls.
Nevertheless a determined squad set out onto the field before that match,
with a first team debut for Natasha and for Helen in a new position in
defence. Once that match started, the team seemed low in confidence and
they went in at half time 7 goals down.
However, they rallied around each other at half time and the second half
saw a different game. Reffley scored from a superb team move which started
from within their own half and ended with Chloe who unleashed a 20 yard
right foot "screamer" into the bottom left hand corner. One for
Lin to be proud of!
A much more vocal Kathryn in defence spurred the girls on to help prevent
more goals being conceded although the experience and confidence of the
Heacham team saw the final score 12 - 1. The Heacham manager has praised
our girls for their determined attitude and said they £deserved a big pat
on the back!"
A big thank you to Debbie, the Heacham manager, for her assistance at the
game and to Ian, Lin's partner for stepping in to help the girls both at
the game and on Wednesday for training. He is a complete novice to this
but still prepared to be there when the chips were down to allow the game
to go ahead.
MotM for Heacham - Debbie their manager. MotM for Reffley - Antonia Flack
for her tireless effort throughout the game. Keep your heads up girls
another win will soon be here.

December 2005: REFFLEY 0-5 NORTH LYNN
Squad: Emily Swales, Lily Taylor, Kathryn Tuck, Chloe Witt,
Daniella Smalley, Antonia Flack, Ellen Heaton, Tasmin King, Sophie Watson,
Kelly Mitchell.
After a sloppy start, giving a goal away in the first couple of minutes,
Reffley settled down, but despite competing well, they went in at half
time 1 goal down.
In the second half, North Lynn rearranged their team and played their
goal-keeper as their new centre-forward - who was obviously their secret
weapon! Reffley came out for the restart with their heads down and never
really got back into the game. Chloe made several good attacking runs but
was isolated up front and found it difficult to make an impact on her own.
Her best shot went just wide.
North Lynn camped out in the Reffley half for the second period, punishing
the home side for silly errors. The final score finished 5 - 0.
MotM: Emily Swales did her best in goal.

October 2005: DERSINHAM 0-1 REFFLEY
Squad: E Swales (GK), L Taylor, K
Tuck, C Witt, A Flack, E Heaton, D Smalley, S Browne, H Abbott, S Watson.
At last Reffley gained that elusive win
and dersevedly so. The team set their stall out and it worked well. Emily
commanded the goal area with 2 very outstanding defenders in front of her.
In midfield all of the girls fought hard throughout the game. Reffley
passed the ball well and played with real passion.
Although Dersingham were physically the
bigger team, it proved that size of opponents is irrelevant, as Reffley
played with tremendous attitude and belief. The Dersingham goalkeeper
played a good game and with the help of the crossbar stopped us scoring
more.
Chloe produced some excellent work on the
wing when given the chance to run. The goal eventually came after good
work from Chloe, Antonia and Daniella, who got the all important
final touch. Reffley played well as a team, the the match ended in a
fiercely fought finale.
Thanks to Paul for coming along to watch.
Having him shout at the girls from the other side of the touchline, as
well as the manager, spurred everyone on. Thanks to the parents for their
support on the touchline. WELL DONE GIRLS!
MotM: Emily who was strong in goal and
Kathryn for a tireless effort throughout the game.

October 2005: REFFLEY 1-4 CLENCHWARTON
Squad: H Abbott, L Taylor, K Mitchell, E Swales, K Tuck, C Witt, D
Smalley, S Browne, S Watson, A Flack.
After a jittery start, the girls quickly
settled down to show what they really can do. Lily was excellent in
defence and Helen commanded her goal area with authority. Daniella
scored Reffley's opening goal following a strong run. The team rallied
round and kept a clean sheet for the remainder of the first half.
The team had to be reshuffled after the
re-start due to a couple of knocks - unfortunately, this proved fateful.
Clenchwarton soon found their form and pulled 2 goals back. Sammy, having
been substituted earlier, returned to the game and then played well.
Reffley's downfall was that they failed to pass the ball consistently well
and did not use the wings. 'Route one' proved a difficult way to score
against an established team such as Clenchwarton.
The final score was 1 - 4, which after
such a good start, was very disappointing. The girls have the potential,
but they have to work consistently hard to raise their game. The trick is
to take their form from the training pitch into a match and with a big
squad the competition for places is fierce, so everyone has to be on their
toes!
MotM: Lily Taylor outstanding in defence
again and a vocal captain.
|
8
October 2005: WOOTTONS 6-0 REFFLEY
Squad: C Witt (GK), L Taylor, E Swales, T King, K Tuck, D
Smalley, A Flack, S Watson, S Browne.
The girls started the game well, kept in
formation and fought hard. The Wootton's first goal was a shot in off the
bar. Despite some tremendous 'keeping from Chloe, she took a knock and had
to be replaced. However, the girls kept their heads and pressed on.
Replacement goalkeeper Sophie was beaten three times before she too was
injured and was then replaced by Tasmin who had never played in goal
before, but let in two more.
Chloe bravely returned up front, nursing
her wrist and made several good runs forward but was unable to find that
elusive goal. Antonia also missed several opportunities in front of goal.
Lily, Kathryn and Emily defended brilliantly. Lily, in particular, who
outstanding and without her the score might have been more.
MotMatch: Lily Taylor for some
great defensive play. Well done Lily!
|
1 October 2005: REFFLEY 0-1 WALPOLE
Squad: H Abbott, C Witt, S Watson, E
Heaton, L Taylor, E Swales, S Browne, A Flack, D Smalley, K Tuck.
Chloe started in goal but unfortunately
let a wet, slippery ball through her hands to trickle into the net. The
defence must work on cutting out the attacks earlier and concentrate more
on where they are. Lily did stop several through balls reaching the
area.
There was some superb football played by
two well-matched teams. Reffley's skills are there but we must think
before we pass the ball, not panic so much and let our team-mates know
when they have space or if they are being marked tightly.
Helen took goal in the second half and
Chloe moved to striker, making some good forward runs. Kathryn marked
well, Antonia, worked hard and Daniella was camped out in the Walpole goal
area for most of the half. Reffley were denied an equaliser due to some
great goalkeeping by the Walpole 'keeper.
Because Reffley conceded only one goal,
our goal difference is better than most other teams just above us, but now
we knew to score a few. Even though the girls have struggled a little
playing the full 50 minutes, their time will come.
Woottons are our opponents next week and
we'll be focused on that game.
Reffley MotM: Lily, Emily
and Antonia, who all gave 110%. Keep it up girls!

September 2005: TILNEY 9-2 REFFLEY
Squad:
Helen Abbott, Lily Taylor, Emily Swales, Ellen Heaton, Kathryn Tuck, Chloe
Witt, Antonia Flack, Daniella Smalley, Sophie Watson, Sammy Browne.
Although Reffley were beaten, this game gave the girls a much needed
boost. The team is still very much in its infancy and learning all the
time, so those elusive wins may take a little time and a few games to come
by.
The standard
of play from all of the girls was superb but they need to remember where
they are on the pitch and not to just follow the ball around leaving gaps
for the opposition to exploit.
There was
some excellent marking from Kathryn on the opposing centre-forward and
some great runs by Daniella and Antonia. Two good goals came from Antonia
and Ellen. In goal, Helen pulled off some great stops in the
first half and Sophie did the same in the second half. All the girls gave
110% effort, which is all the manager could ask for and all showed very
good sportsmanship after the game.
From the
Manager: "Well done girls, keep it up and we will be winning before
long." Player of the match - the entire Reffley team.
