SUN 15 APR 2007: L&B BOYS 1-5 REFFLEY

The L & B pitch was hard and bumpy but the boys in red gave a typical hard working, battling display. Reffley had the better of the early exchanges continually turning the physical L & B defence. The pressure eventually led to them breaking down the left and a perfect cross allowed Jack Taylor to come in and hammer the ball past the goalkeeper. L & B then had their best spell putting the Reffley defence under a lot of pressure only to find them in great form backed up by a solid goal keeper. Nearing half time and Reffley won a free kick just over the half way line, up steps Matt Cornwell to unleash a forty yard shot straight into the top corner.

Second half opened with Reffley again under pressure, but the storm was weathered and they eventually got back into their stride. Ryan Scott released Cornwell to run through and score his second. L & B then won a free kick and their player stepped up to curl the ball away from Darren's despairing dive and into the top corner a goal worthy of Mr Cornwell himself. Once again though Reffley pulled their socks up a quick break saw Cornwell restore the three goal advantage and complete his hatrick. Towards the end a perfectly delivered corner from Ben Ward saw Pat Staunton stoop to header the fifth goal and complete the scoring. Both teams deserved credit for this hard battling game in the heat.

SUN 08 APR 2007: TERRINGTON 0-2 REFFLEY

On a hot April morning both sides had many chances to win this game. Both sides worked really hard and produced some good football, but both keepers were in sparkling form. The game was won though by a bit of good fortune going Reffley's way. A long clearance by Darren Smith went right the way through and with Mickey putting the defenders under pressure the ball was allowed to run straight into the Terrington net. A period of really sustained pressure then followed for Reffley. Ryan Scott won the ball in midfield and supplied a perfectly weighted pass for Mickey Elwood to run onto again and bury in the net. Although this was not their best performance it was the most pleasing as the whole team kept working hard right to the end.

SUN 01 APR 2007: MUNDFORD 3-1 REFFLEY

The second game of the weekend saw Reffley again fall behind to defensive lapses. Although this game epitimised their season. For long periods they dominated the opposition but at vital times a lack of concentration allowed Mundford to capitalise. The Reffley scorer was Pat Staunton with a lovely flicked header that gave the keeper no chance. Reffley man of the weekend was, and I know people don't like to see this but, the whole squad. The managers comment after this game was "keep playing like this and eventually your luck will change."

SAT 31 MAR 2007: REFFLEY 2-4 MUNDFORD

This game took place on the Saturday with the return on the following day to help both team catch up on their league fixtures. Mundford were quickly out of the blocks which saw them take an early 2 -0 lead, both goals the result of defensive mistakes being capitalised on. Matt Cornwell worked hard through the middle and was rewarded with a goal to bring Reffley to life. Mundford scored twice more before half time to lead 4 v 1. The second half saw the usual Reffley side turn up and they performed brilliantly to take the game to Mundford and win the second half 1 v 0 with a fantastic free kick from Mr Cornwell.

SUN 24 MAR 2007: WOOTTONS 4-1 REFFLEY - League KO Cup Q/F

On an awful pitch the Reffley team were beaten by a side that on their day are the strongest in the league. Reffley scorer was Matthew Cornwell with another fantastic free kick, something that is fast becoming his trade mark.

SUN 11 MAR: REFFLEY 2-1 BRANDON

Squad: D.Smith, J.Cole, P.Staunton, C.Goodsen, M.Ellwood, J.Scott, R.Scott, D.Taylor, J.Taylor, J.Ridsdill, M.Cornwell, B.Ward, J.Hooke.

This was a game that neither side could really afford to lose. The game started in a poor fashion with neither side really imposing any authority. Danny Taylor remained composed to hit a thirty yarder, but the Brandon keeper pulled off a great save to deny him his first of the season.

Reffley pushed and probed but just couldn't get the ball into a telling area. It was left to Brandon to open the scoring midway through the first half when they broke quickly to punish the Reffley defence. This did spark Reffley into raising their game and shortly after Reffley forced a series of corners one resulting in Matty Cornwell's cross taking a small deflection into the Brandon goal.

Half time came with the scores equal. The second half opened with both sides again struggling with the pitch and the windy conditions and it looked as though the game was going to end all square, until a bit of magic from Ben saw the ball delivered into the box for Jack Taylor to ghost into the back post to slot the ball past the advancing Brandon keeper, for a goal that proved to be the winner.

This was a solid if not indifferent performance from the Reffley team that showed when the work rate is there the results can come. The defence is looking stronger and the whole squad is coming together.

Reffley MOTM the defence.

SUN 04 MAR 2007: REFFLEY 1-2 SHOULDHAM

A great game if football played by both teams. Shouldham took the lead midway through the first half, after a goal mouth scramble. This was followed up just before half time when the Shouldham centre forward launched a thunderbolt into the Reffley net giving Daz no chance. The half ended with Daz pulling of an amazing double save to deny Shouldham any further goals.

The second half opened and Reffley fought to get on top. Both sides continued to play good football even battling the elements. Probably the best bit of football ended with Matt Cornwell reducing the arrears. Ryan Scott won the ball in midfield before feeding Jack Taylor on the right, he in turn knocked the ball into the channel for Matt Cornwell to run onto and provide a sublime finish to the move. Both sides had chances to add to their score but it wasn't to be. Reffley players can hold their heads high and need to keep producing this spirit and I feel sure it will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.

Reffley MotM: Ttoo close to call between Chris Goodsen and Darren Smith.

SUN 25 FEB 2007: WOOTTONS 5-1 REFFLEY

With only 11 players available Reffley started this match with a different formation. The opening exchanges saw Reffley ride their luck a bit but they soon started to open up and create chances. Then some poor defending saw three mistakes allow Wootton to take a 3-0 lead at half time.

The second half opened with both sides matching each other until another defensive mistake allowed Wootton to increase their lead. What followed was a great exchange of passes and at last Reffley showed their metal to create a chance for Matty Cornwell to run through and score to reduce it to 4-1. The closing minutes saw the Wootton's centre forward burst through to restore the four goal advantage with a tremendous strike from outside the box to make the final score 5-1.

SUN 18 FEB 2007: REFFLEY V TERRINGTON (League KO Cup - Q/F)

With Terrington having a weakened squad, Reffley took advantage to run out four nil winners.

An even first half saw chances at both ends squandered. The second half started with Reffley pressuring and an early corner saw Matty flight a ball in for Pat Staunton to shoot into the back of the net.

Reffley then raised their game and with everyone pulling together scored for a second time when Matty Cornwell hit a corker into the top corner from twenty five yards out. This seemed to spur Terrington on and they enjoyed their best spell, but found the defence of James, Pat, Mickey and MOTM Chris in fine form, and when they were beaten Daz was always up to the task in goal.

After their short spell, Reffley once again pushed on and good play by Ben created an opening for Matty Cornwell to score his second. This was quickly followed up by good work from Jack, Joe S and Ryan to pressure the Terrington defence and create an opening for Cornwell to complete his hat-trick.

A good, solid team performance and showed the value of having a good team spirit. I would like to mention the other players in this piece as today's performance merited a mention for everyone, so well done also to Joe H, Jacob (hope your foots better soon) and last but not least the captain Danny.

SUN 04 FEB 2007: REFFLEY P-P WALPOLE

SUN 28 JAN 2007: REFFLEY 2-4 MATTISHALL

Again Reffley showed there battling qualities and but for putting the ball in the net they again acquitted themselves. The first half saw them go behind to a great strike but James Cole replied just before half time to give them a fighting chance only for Mattishall to go up the other end and score again. The second half saw Reffley fight really hard but a fluke goal when Darren Smith appeared to have saved the ball, only for it to spin into the net, saw them fall further behind. Again they fought back and were rewarded when Ben Ward forced the ball over the line after a scramble in the penalty area. Disappointingly the ball then fell for Mattishall to restore their two goal advantage. A disappointing end to the game but hopefully the boys can build on this and take the spirit into the next game.

SUN 21 JAN 2007: BRANDON 1-2 REFFLEY (League KO Cup - last 16)

A good game from a spectators point of view between two competitive sides. Reffley took the lead in the first half when a well delivered corner found Mickey Ellwood at the back post and his header found its way into the goal. The second half got under way and it was soon two goals for Reffley when a quick throw found Matt Cornwell in the box and he buried his shot in to the back of the net. Brandon came back at Reffley and with 10 minutes to go were awarded a penalty after Daz caught the Brandon centre forward, who then stepped up to convert. It seems that the spirit is well and truly back and it just needs now for us to push on from this and string a few results together.

SUN 14 JAN 2007: REFFLEY 0-3 DERSINGHAM

Dersingham led at half time thanks to a couple of goals from Luke Biles, the second a rocket of a free kick. The second half saw both teams battle really well, but it was Dersingham that scored the all important third to run out winners. A good team performance from the Reffley lads who displayed a spirit often missing this term.

SUN 07 JAN 2007: DERSINGHAM P-P REFFLEY

SUN 17 DEC 2006: REFFLEY 4-2 L & B BOYS

Good first league win of the season. It was nice to see the boys play like this, some terrific football being the order of the day. Goals in the first half by Matt Cornwell (3) and Scotty saw us in at half time 4 - 1 up. The second half was a real battle but the boys didn't shirk their responsibilities and ground out a result. For most of the boys this was their best performance of the season but my pick was Micky Ellwood. We all wish Joe Hooke a speedy recovery.

SUN 10 DEC 2006: BRANDON 2-1 REFFLEY

SUN 12 NOV 2006: REFFLEY 3-2 TILNEY (Pre. Round - League KO Cup)

Both teams gave a good account of themselves in this game. Reffley opened very strongly but found it easier to hit the woodwork than it was the back of the net. Tilney displayed the old fighting spirit that the club has been renowned for over the past few years and kept themselves well and truly in the game. The second half saw Reffley out of the blocks quicker and they soon led 2 - 0 with goals from Staunton and Cornwell. Tilney replied mid way through the half but a good run and cross from Jack Taylor saw an unfortunate defender put through his own goal. Tilney scored a late consolation.

SUN 05 NOV 2006: REFFLEY 2-6 MUNDFORD (County Cup - 2nd Round)

A strong Mundford performance saw them through to the next round. An even start was turned Mundford's way when they scored mid way in the first half and then scored a second just before half time. The second half began with Reffley in the changing room and Mundford in their stride and the result was never in doubt after Mundford scored four very quick goals to lead 6 - 0. Reffley then woke up and started to battle, a superb lob from Staunton and a great free kick from Cornwell saw some semblance of normality return to the Reffley team. Good luck to Mundford in the next round.

SUN 29 OCT 2006: WALPOLE 4-0 REFFLEY

A good even first half saw Walpole take the lead just before half time with a well taken header. The second half was turned by a couple of refereeing decisions and some great breakaway play from Walpole who scored two quick goals half way through the half and wrapped it up with a fourth late on.

SUN 29 OCT 2006: L & B BOYS P-P REFFLEY

SUN 22 OCT 2006: WOOTTONS P-P REFFLEY

SUN 15 OCT 2006: REFFLEY 1-5 TERRINGTON

Well it was one of those days, the ball bounces over Dazza's head for the first, James dribbles the ball out of the box then gets robbed and number two, Scottie (Ryan) toes one back, we have a scrambled effort cleared and miss two glorious chances to equalise before another mistake concedes the third, and all on the first half.

In the second we pegged Terrington back but couldn't score and in the end I made the call to stick three up top and we went to sleep to concede two more, one of which was from near the corner flag. To be fair we played some lovely football, the game was played in a competitive spirit by both sides, but we have to stop conceding and making our chances count.

SUN 08 OCT 2006: SHOULDHAM 8-2 REFFLEY

A poor second half performance saw the boys concede 5 goals and lose this game, a game that they dominated for periods, 8 goals to 2.

Reffley goal scorers were Pat Staunton from a scrambled corner and Matt Cornwell with a great strike from just outside the box. As a team we now need to step up to the plate and perform for the whole game, cut out the moaning and start playing the way we know we can.

SUN 01 OCT 2006: REFFLEY 7-2 EAST LYNN (County Cup - 1st Round)

Reffley conceded an early goal to a penalty but was soon back on terms when Ben Ward scored with a brave header. Some poor defensive play then lead to Reffley conceding a second. Up stepped Matthew Cornwell to finish off some really good football moves to score 4 goals. This made the half time score 4-2.

The second half was a very even affair but with 2 very good strikes, one from Ben Ward and the other from Mickey Ellwood. Good performances from Joe Hooke and Patrick Staunton. This game saw Taylor Wilson make his debut and complete the new signings from the summer. It may take a couple of games for this new team to settle, but we are expecting good things.

Thanks to Kayleigh Taylor for refereeing.

SUN 24 SEPT 2006: MATTISHALL V REFFLEY

Reffley found themselves losing out in this game, a game they had dominated for periods, but never converting any of the chances created. Good debut’s for the trio of Joe Hooke, Micky Ellwood and Jack Taylor. Reffley consolation was scored by Matt Cornwell

Reffley MotM: Ryan Scott.
